Secretary for Administration and Finance Jay Gonzalez announced today the appointment of Amy Pitter as the new commissioner for the Department of Revenue. Pitter succeeds Commissioner Navjeet K. Bal, who is returning to the private sector to work as an attorney for the firm of Nixon Peabody.
Pitter, a lawyer and accountant, held several senior management positions at DOR in the 1990s, serving as Deputy Commissioner of Taxpayer Services and then as Deputy Commissioner for Child Support Enforcement.
For the past 10 years Pitter has worked for CGI. an independent and world-wide information technology and business process services company where she partnered with agencies such as the Internal Revenue Service to conduct business process redesign and reengineering initiatives.
Bal was named Deputy DOR Commissioner in September 2007 after having worked as a bond lawyer specializing in municipal finance law at Mintz Levin. She has served as commissioner since February 2008.
Bal's last day will be Friday, September 30. Pitter will be sworn in Monday, October 3. In a press release, Nixon Peabody said it was expanding its public finance practice with the appointment of Bal as counsel.
In a note emailed to DOE employees today, Bal said, "Thank you for all your commitment to your jobs and for your hard work. I know that at the end of my career, I will look back on this as the best job of my life. It has been a pleasure."
