The Department of Revenue has posted an invitation to participate in a web video contest designed to promote DOR's free, secure and easy-to-use WebFile for Income tax filing program.
The winning video will be posted on DOR's homepage and YouTube channel as well as highlighted on DOR's Facebook and Twitter pages, and may also be placed with cable media outlets as a public service announcement.
Videos must be uploaded to YouTube. They should be 30-seconds long, and follow all the rules listed for the contest in the invitation. Entries are due no later than Monday, December 5, 2011.
Why sponsor the contest? DOR believes WebFile for Income, which was developed in-house and was used by 118,000 taxpayers in tax year 2010, is a terrific product at the right price.
We think this contest will be of most interest to younger taxpayers who have more hands-on experience in developing video. Ironically, the 19 percent of those same younger taxpayers (under 30 years old) still filing paper income tax returns is relatively high (slightly higher than those ages 60-69) so anything DOR can do to reach this younger group to stimulate electronic tax filing is a plus.
Videos will be judged by a panel from both DOR and a video/design agency. Judging will be based on quality, message, creativity and entertainment value.
